Sticky

After our excursion in the Botanical Gardens one of our friends offered to show us the Sticky shop (candy store) where you can watch the men make some of the different lollies that they sell.
The boys were VERY disappointed that we happened to arrive as they were finishing a batch so we wandered around The Rocks and came back when they started a new batch!

Finish candy before it has been cut for bagging.

Pouring the hot candy syrup on the tray for cooling and the process begins...

 Adding colour...

 cutting and preparing for rolling...

Stretching the clear candy to make it white...

Assembling the roll that makes the picture in the centre of the candy...

All ready to be stretched... the picture was a raspberry with a twig and leaf...

 Stretching and cooling...

Hand cutting the candy into small bite sized pieces...

Now that we know the process we will return to watch again and I will be better prepared to take photos that explain the process a bit better.  It didn't help that Munchkin (the baby) was over tired and not interested at all!

Homeschool Group Excursion - Alexander's Outing

Our homeschool group decided to go on an excursion in the city to re-enact the book Alexander's Outing by Pamela Allen

I had a sleepless night with Munchkin the night before so we headed into the city MUCH earlier than the rest of the group.  Since our meeting point was Archibald Fountain at Hyde Park the big boys had the opportunity to enjoy the fountain and the water while we waited.

Alexander's Outing...

... down Art Gallery Road past the art gallery...

...through the iron gates and into the Botanical Gardens...

...past the tree...

... until we reached the pond!

There were some impromptu stops along the way to admire other fountains, tulips, and bridges before finding a picnic spot.  Several of the children enjoyed rolling down the grassy hill after lunch too!!

Library Book Love

We LOVE our local library.
They have LOTS and LOTS of science books and they are getting new ones all the time.
This was a recent find that the boys really enjoyed.
It was jam packed with so much information that it took us a long time to read it and enjoy every last morsel of information.

Book Work With a Baby/Toddler

I often get asked what Munchkin gets up to while the big boys are doing seated book work.
It varies from day to day... sometimes book work happens while he naps, sometimes while he nurses, but usually he finds his own thing to do.

Here you can see Monkey (top photo) working in his preschool/kindergarten workbook and Monster doing his handwriting (bottom photo) so Munchkin picked up one of the electronic learning toys and pushed the music button over and over again!!

Colour Fun - Science

The boys enjoyed learning how plants draw water with this popular coloured water experiment!
