Week Two ~ Sick Week

I'm not sure what we had planned for the week but everything got thrown out the window as the boys got sick!  It took them down one after the other like dominoes... but thankfully it was short lived AND it was our only illness for the ENTIRE winter!!

This is Monster feeling feverish and cold (he came down with it first) so he spent a day wrapped up in the mink blanket watching movies.  Munchkin was still well so didn't stay long as he got too hot!

The boys rallied hard and were well enough (with an 11th hour recovery by Monkey) to celebrate Monkey's 5th birthday with a party on the weekend.  Monkey was actually still quite ill on his actual birthday and even relapsed a bit the day after his party, but he enjoyed a wonderful Hungry Jacks celebration with his friends!
 Playing Pass the Parcel

 And Musical Chairs

 Blowing out his candles...

His official birthday photo was taken a day late since he was too sick on his actual birthday to smile!  But this photo was WELL worth the wait!

Monkey opened all his presents at home and loved everything that he received!!

Week One ~ Letter Cc

We enjoyed lots of fun activities in our first week back to structured learning.
Along with our normal "book work" we enjoyed marshmallow/toothpick constructions, we studied the moon phases, and we discovered colour by number pictures!
There are quite a lot of photos for this week... enjoy!!

I will highlight the boys one at a time...
Monster first!
He spent the good portion of one day reading a compilation Spider Man comic book of his father's that he found in the office!

Monkey's Learning Activities

Some paper cutting practice to strengthen his fine motor skills.

Capital and lower case "Cc" writing in his Handwriting Without Tears book.

More writing practice...

 Enjoying a pattern colouring sheet

The marshmallow construction took a LOT of concentration and patience for him.

... and oreo cookie activitiy

LOVED that there was a letter C colour by number sheet (above)
and some more writing practice (below)

He just couldn't get enough of the colour by number pages!!

Last but certainly NOT least... Munchkin!!
He had to do everything the big boys were doing...
 His "Cc" handwriting

I was VERY impressed with his marshmallow construction as he very deliberately and carefully made a long row of toothpicks each with a marshmallow on either end!

His attempt at the Moon Phases colouring sheet.
Sadly, I did NOT allow him to participate in the oreo cookie moon phase activity as that would have been more drama than we needed in our day.  He helped daddy do some grocery shopping instead and perhaps we will repeat the activity next year!

July School Holidays

Winter school holidays brought some new activities for the boys.

We started the holidays off straight away on Saturday (28th June) by celebrating daddy's birthday in the city with good friends.  The highlight of the day was the fireworks after dinner.

We were back in the city two days later with another family to enjoy the "snow" at Darling Harbour.  Both Monster and Monkey were disappointed as the texture of the "snow" was more like shaved ice than fluffy snow, but it was a good experience nonetheless.

No school holidays is complete without Bingo at the library with our favourite librarian.

We are blessed to have several libraries close to our home and so we enjoyed a magic show at another library.  The boys enjoyed it but admitted that this lady was not as good as the gentleman the library has hosted in the past.

The weather was cold (it is winter after all) but sunny and nice allowing for MANY trips to the park and the beach.

We also enjoyed quiet days at home and the favourite activity seemed to be puzzles.

I always try to get a little deep cleaning and organizing done as well.

Not shown with photographs... Monster attended the school holiday super hero event at ANSTO (photographs are not allowed) and both Monster and Monkey enjoyed an all day Lego event at a local church that a friend of mine attends.

The holidays were wonderful and we were refreshed and ready for a new term of structured learning.
